In recent years, the concept of beauty has become more important than ever before, and interest in aesthetics has significantly increased with the development of socioeconomic status. The advancements and demand for breast aesthetics have been rising day by day.
It is actually possible to explain this by the fact that women are increasingly involved in the workforce and body image is becoming more emphasized. When we talk about breast aesthetics, breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast lift, and the correction of breast asymmetries come to mind. Patients who have undergone mastectomies or have experienced breast deformities due to breast cancer can also be considered within the scope of breast aesthetics.
How Are Breast Augmentation Surgeries Performed?
With the introduction of new techniques and the improvement in the quality of products used, breast augmentation surgeries have become highly satisfactory for both the patient and the surgeon. The breast implants used today are more compatible with the body, closely resembling the feel of natural breast tissue, and have largely eliminated concerns about artificial-looking results.
The silicone breast implants we use are FDA-approved and CE-certified, and they are lifelong. This means that patients do not need to remove these implants after a certain period. Moreover, breast scans such as mammograms are not hindered by these implants.
After a breast implant surgery, patients can still undergo mammograms, ultrasounds, and breast MRIs. Scientific studies have also shown that it does not affect breastfeeding after childbirth.
Thanks to technological advancements, the variety of silicone breast implants has increased. Different sizes, projections (heights), and forms are available. Thus, the implants we use for each patient are tailored according to their body contours.
It is important not to apply the same type of implant to every patient seeking breast augmentation. In the consultation, we evaluate the patient’s expectations and decide on the most appropriate implant based on their body shape and measurements. Many patients express a desire for their breasts to be “not too big, not too small, but just right.”
The advanced and easy-to-apply surgical techniques have made these operations more popular. Most of our breast implant patients are able to go home on the same evening of the surgery. This is thanks to advancements in anesthesia and the surgical methods we use.
Depending on the type of surgery, patients can return to their normal work life within 5-7 days. Of course, it must not be forgotten that breast augmentation is still a surgery with a healing process and possible complications. Therefore, the relationship between the patient and the surgeon should be based on mutual trust, as with any surgical procedure.
What Problems Can Large Breasts Cause for Women?
Breasts play an important role in defining feminine contours. Small breasts can be a concern, but large breasts can cause their own set of problems. Large breasts often cause shoulder and back pain. In addition, issues such as redness, bad odor, and even fungal infections can occur under and around the breasts. Women with large breasts may also find it difficult to find suitable clothing. Some patients even experience breathing difficulties due to the size of their breasts.
How Is the Surgery Performed?
Breast reduction surgeries are performed under general anesthesia and typically last around 2-3 hours. In most cases, a one-day hospital stay is sufficient. Pain that cannot be relieved with painkillers is rare. Most patients can manage their daily tasks by themselves starting the day after surgery. In fact, many patients report feeling relief from shoulder and back pain the day after surgery and notice that they can walk more upright and comfortably.
In reality, breast reduction surgery is often performed to improve quality of life rather than for aesthetic reasons. As long as everything goes smoothly, patients can typically return to their normal work life within 5-7 days, depending on the nature of the surgery. As with breast augmentation, it is important to remember that complications related to the surgery can occur, and recovery times may vary from person to person.
How Are Breast Lift Surgeries Performed?
In an ideal breast, the desired features are fullness and nipples that face forward. Particularly after childbirth and significant weight fluctuations, breast fullness may decrease, and the nipples may appear saggy.
In some cases, women who have never given birth may also experience sagging. If the breast tissue is sufficient and the nipples are sagging significantly, a simple lift to preserve the existing breast tissue may be enough.
However, if the breasts have become empty after childbirth and the nipples are pointing downward, a suitable breast implant can be inserted along with the lift to restore fullness. In cases where a lift is performed without an implant for patients with sufficient breast tissue, the process is often similar to that of a breast reduction surgery.
However, for patients undergoing a breast lift with an implant, the process may be slightly different. Depending on the anatomical location where the implant is placed, pain may be more pronounced, and returning to normal work life may take a bit longer.
What Is Done for Women Who Have Had Their Breasts Removed Due to Breast Cancer?
Women who have had their breasts removed or deformed due to breast cancer can also undergo various procedures. These are primarily reconstruction surgeries, which aim to recreate the breast. This can be done using the patient’s own tissue or silicone breast implants. It is possible to recreate a breast using tissue taken from the abdomen, back, or buttocks.
Alternatively, silicone breast implants can be used in this reconstruction process. After a thorough medical evaluation and considering the patient’s preferences, the most suitable technique is selected for the patient. In addition to these techniques, fat injections can also be used to correct breast deformities.
